It you aren't sure how to use this Calculator, no worries! Just make sure you are familiar with AO3 Tagging terminology as explained on the pages of this website explaining AO3 Tags (and, if applicable to you, the UTMV Tags).
For the most basic determination of whether or not your ship is a Rarepair by the definition of this Event, you only need:
- the Number of Works in the Fandom Tag of your ship (as you would put in the "Fandom Tag" field on AO3)
- the Number of Works in the Relationship Tag of your ship (as you would put in the "Relationship Tag" field on AO3
You can put these numbers in the corresponding fields below, found in the "Basic Metrics" part of the form.
If your Ship is an AU Ship, then you must check the "Ship is an AU" box off, and also fill in the metrics for your AU Ship's Disambiguating Freeform Tag
If you do not know your Ship's Tags' metrics, you can find them by searching for the tag(s) on AO3 using the Tag Search. If you happen to know the exact syntax (wording) of the Tag you want to look up data for, there is a convenient quick-search bar below this form!
How to use the AO3 Tag Search
Type the closest approximation you know of what your desired tag is written as into the "Tag" Field of the search. It is alright if you don't remember the exact syntax.
To narrow down the search, change the "Type" in the type field to the desired type. If you are looking for a Relationship Tag, change the Type to "Relationship". If you are looking for a Disambiguating Freeform Tag, change it to "Freeform". Ect. Ect.
Once you find your exact tag, click on it. This will send you to that tag's "Tag Page". If your tag is wrangled to be synonymous with a parent tag, there will be a "Mergers" section of the page that will say "[This Tag] has been made a synonym of [Parent Tag]. Works and bookmarks tagged with [This Tag] will show up in [Parent Tag]'s filter."
You will then want to click on the Parent Tag to get to it's Tag Page. This is the Tag you will want to mind the metrics of.
From here, click on the "Works" button, and it will take you to the "Works" page for the tag. The top of this page will have the total number of Fics that use this Tag along with Any of its synonyms. This number is the one you will want to use in the Calculator.
